REPLICATION PATTERN AND LOCATION OF CHROMOSOME BREAKAGE IN HUMAN LYMPHOCYTES

Abstract
The relationship between DNA replication patterns and chromosome breaks is studied by BUdR labelling.
Chromosome breaks can be induced specifically in the S-phase by incorporation of BUdR. The distributions of predilections sites of chromosome breakages both by X-ray induced and translocation cases are shown. Break points are distributed 1:2 by translocation and 3:5 by X-ray induced cases between G-and R-bands. The frequency of break points by X-ray inductions is highly correlated to the relative length of chromosomes (r = 0.84) however relatively less correlated patte±º are shown by translocation cases (r = 0.51).
